I don’t wish to paint all Democrats as gun hating losers, because there are a lot of good ones out there. Like Jason Altmire and Dan Boren, for example. So I have decided on declaring an Axis of Evil to exist within the Democratic Party, composed of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. Henceforth known as the Obama/Biden/Pelosi Democrats. These are the people who make nightmares for gun owners. We have to fight these Democrats, and in doing that, we’re really going to need our friends in the Democratic party.
Archive for the “2008 Election” CategoryWith Obama looking like he’s getting a boost from the economic crisis, we have to work harder than ever. I know people like me get on this bandwagon every election, but this one really is the most important election we’ve faced in my life time. Obama makes Bill Clinton look like a saint on guns, and an unapologetic capitalist. Most of us remember how bad the Clinton years were for gun owners. Heller won’t save us if Obama fills the numerous vacancies on the federal courts with people who will interpret it away to essential meaninglessness. What the Pelosi/Obama/Biden Democrats are hoping for this election is that they can find a winning formula, without having to dump their gun control constituencies outright. I can promise you the Brady Campaign is frustrated they are being stuffed in steerage for the entire election, but the Democrats are not abandoning gun control. If they win this November, it will tell them they don’t have to actually support the Second Amendment to win. It will tell them that all they have to do is pull the wool over those bitter, gun clingers eyes enough that they won’t check to hard to see what’s really behind the curtain. It will make them think NRA is a paper tiger if they can’t defeat the most anti-gun presidential candidate in American history. None of these things will be good for us. They will, in fact, be disastrous. The sour economy is going to mean the federal coffers have less money in them to pay for Obama’s programs. Can you think of something Obama could focus his energies on that wouldn’t cost a lot of money? I sure as hell can, and is scares the hell out of me. Please, if you do nothing else this election, contact your NRA-EVC and volunteer just a few hours of your time. Even if it’s just placing yard signs, doing a precinct walk, helping out with a phone bank. Bloggers are definitely stepping up this year. For those of us volunteering, we need all the help we can get, even if it’s just an hour. It makes a big difference when the voting time starts. Go Sarah! I think most Americans understand that politicians are eminently unqualified to stand in moral judgement of, well, anyone. Tom Manion, who has an NRA endorsement this election, running against incumbent Patrick Murphy has a pretty good hard hitting ad running against Murphy. More like this, please. Bitter notices the Greens are going after Palin hard. There’s also a problem of the moderator of Thursday’s VP debates being in the tank for Obama. First, Obama is shown as being up seven points in Pennsylvania. The problem with this state is you have a lot of Democrats. Now, these are conservative, Catholic Democrats, but they view the Democrats as sticking up for the little guy. They are willing to vote against Democrats because of guns, abortion or any number of issues, but if the economy is in the crapper, they run home to mama. That’s the problem we face now. On top of that, we have Bruce Springsteen doing a free concert to drive voter registration in Philadelphia. Philly voter registration is progressing apace from what I’ve heard. That could end up being nearly a million votes in the bank for Obama. That’s a hell of a lot of votes the O-man can count on heading into November. Sixty percent of all newly registered voters are voting Democrat. This is one area The Republicans can’t compete with the Democrats on. And I still can’t get many volunteers willing to do anything to help avert disaster. We’re in for some very dark days ahead of us if the Obama/Pelosi Democrats are allowed to dominate our government. There’s no reason this has to come to pass. UPDATE: Quinnipiac poll shows Obama up 15 points. Well, it was fun being a battleground state. Someone FedEX me some hope, because I’m losing it rapidly. This kind of crap freaks me the hell out. UPDATE: Wretchard notices too. In the past it’s always been our country or our traditions that’s inspired us to song. This was to be a nation of laws, not of men. I can’t imagine any politician on the American scene inspiring me to song, and the fact that Barack Obama is having this effect on people is nearly enough to make me pray for his defeat. UPDATE: Jim Lindgren says:
Here here. One thing I want to do for the Allentown show this weekend is make our table look attractive, to entice people to come over and talk with us. The typical literature isn’t very interesting or eye catching, especially when you’re in a room with wall-to-wall guns. In the mail is a digital picture frame, which I will use on the table to play video. I’m planning on running the NRA Katrina video on that, with some literature placed near it. In the other corner of the table, I’m going to borrow a Shuttle PC from my friend Jason, along with an LCD touch screen. My idea was to put up NRA’s O-Match application up full screen and let people use it. I figured kids especially may be drawn in, giving us an opportunity to talk to the parents. Can you say “Barack Obama is a free speech stifling, gun banning weasel? I knew you could.” This should be something different, and we’ll see how this experiment goes. I might lose my faith in humanity if I discover that cats and humans have more in common than I once thought, but if I get some more people at my table, and on my e-mail list, I’ll be happy.

Missouri Governor Stands up to Obama’s Goon SquadsPosted by: Sebastian in 2008 Election, Civil LibertiesAt least someone is willing to tell the Obama Campaign where to stick it:
And I thought the Clintons were dirty. Hillary would be a godsend compared to this guy. Going into the debates, I was wondering whether Obama would be on his best game. I’m seen him give fantastic speeches from the telepromter, but off the cuff he’s always seemed to be at somehwat of a disability. I didn’t see any of that tonight. Both candidates did very well, I thought. I didn’t think there was a clear winner. Obama seems to have tacked a good bit close to the center than he was during the primary, for instance he’s now supporting missile defense, when before he was against it. But Obama came off well, and I didn’t think McCain came off as a slouch either. One thing I did notice watching CNNs coverage is that independents seem to track closer to Republicans most of the time, in their reaction. I have to wonder whether Obama’s move to the middle is pissing off a lot of his base. I mean, I didn’t get the impression Obama was any hippy flower wearing peacenik when it comes to foreign policy. He is definitely a man of the left, but he plays the role of a moderate very well.

DNC Now Attempting to Silence Gun OwnersPosted by: Sebastian in 2008 Election, Gun RightsURGENT: I got a response back already. Do not use their e-mailers, as they send attachments along that do contain Obama’s legal threat, along with all the material from FactCheck.org and various other sources. They do send your content, but you don’t want the baggage that goes along with it. The Democratic National Committee is now taking up a petition to get NRA’s ads off the air. I have filled in my information so you don’t have to:
Will the blue dogs in the party condemn this action? Or will they stand by and take it from Obama? If they want gun owner support, this isn’t how to go about it. I will say that at least the DNC didn’t threaten their broadcast licenses. Since they allow editing, I have taken their form and translated it to this:
That should be a nice middle finger extended to the Democratic National Committee. Unfortunately, they ask for a donation after you submit, and “Piss Off” is not among the options. The AFL-CIO is taking NRA to task for trying to divide good working coal miners from Barack Obama. One wonders what AFL-CIO’s position is on Joe Biden talking out of both sides of his mouth about clean coal. When the chips are down, do the United Mine Workers really believe Obama will stand with them over the environmental lobby? If they do, I have a bank in New York to sell them. On the way in from work, spotting on people’s lawns in the Fort Washington/Blue Bell area of Montgomery County, PA:
Based on signage, things are looking good for McCain at least in some parts of the Philadelphia suburbs. Based on signage in general, I think McCain has the edge, and that’s a good sign of where the passion is, even if it’s not scientific.

Obama Silencing Voice of Gun OwnersPosted by: Sebastian in 2008 Election, Civil Liberties, Gun Rights OrganizationsBarack Obama’s campaign is trying to silence the National Rifle Association’s latest ad campaign using strong arm tactics by threatening them with possible legal action if they run the ads:
So basically, stop running NRA’s ads, or your broadcast license could be in jeopardy. They detail the WaPo’s FactCheck.org repetition as proof. This is Chicago politics at its finest folks. If you can’t win fair, win dirty. This is not how a free society is supposed to function. This is not the kind of man I want leading my country. Besides, every bit of what NRA claimed is true. It’s the Obama campaign and the news media that’s lying. UPDATE: Bitter has more. UPDATE: Instapundit links with a lot more. In other news, I really need to upgrade my server hardware. Turns out my little wireless router can’t handle an instalaunch too well. UPDATE: Want to help defeat Putinesque tactics like this, I would encourage folks reading to join the NRA, and contact your local NRA Election Volunteer Coordinator. We EVCs are working very hard to find people to help us defeat Barack Obama in November.
Media advocacy for Obama is higher than any candidate in recent memory. It’s becoming worse than mere bias, and crossing into the realm of the media actively campaigning for The Lightworker’s ascension. McCain is apparently taking time off the campaign trail to focus on the financial crisis:
It’s actually a pretty bold manuver. If Obama stays in the field, he looks like someone who is unserious and more concerned about winning his election than he is about doing his job as a Senator in a major economic crisis. If he goes back to Washington with McCain, he has to take time off fundraising. McCain’s campaign is on welfare for politicians public financing right now, so he’s not able to legally raise funds currently. If Obama comes in from the field it hurts his campaign financially. Either way, Obama comes out the loser on this. Apparently the Obama campaign aren’t too keen on paying their restaurant tab. The Jawa Report has an excellent bit of Amature Journalism that outlines how the Obama campaign is likely behind an astroturf campaign to promote sleazy and blatantly false claims about Sarah Palin. Looks like Chicago politics to me. Why would we want to elect a president from there again?

FactCheck.org’s Bad Facts Go MainstreamPosted by: Sebastian in 2008 Election, Gun Rights, The MediaNational Review has more to say about FactCheck.org lack of facts. Apparently the Washington Post is joining in the deception as well. You can’t really blame them, they do have an election to win, after all. UPDATE: CNN Joins in with the same nonsense. UPDATE: The Washington Independent too. UPDATE: Firearms and freedom sums it up:
Like I said, they have an election to win. Looks like some ward leaders in Northeast Philly aren’t sold on Obama yet. Philly has to be pretty solid to carry the state. This is a good sign for McCain. Here’s a great quote from Biden:
Well, except for the fact that FDR wasn’t president when the stock market crashed in 1929. Herbert Hoover was president. The first president to appear on Television was actually Franklin Roosevelt, but that was at the 1939 World Fair. The other funny thing is, I doubt Joe Biden could even explain what happened. I’ve been reading for days on this crisis, and I can’t exactly say I understand completely how all these financial instruments that are in play here all interact with each other.

More on FactCheck.org’s Bad Fact CheckingPosted by: Sebastian in 2008 Election, Gun RightsI will go into some more detail on FactCheck.org’s claims. It may very well be that they don’t understand the gun issue. In fact, I would say that’s so. Let’s take a look at some of their claims:
I agree with them on this one, that it’s a bit of distortion. But what they fail to mention is that you can’t register a gun in a lot of these communities because handguns are banned. You have to have a registration certificate to own one, but you can’t get a registration certificate because they are banned. The end result is, if you use a gun in self-defense, you go to jail. Obama voted for that. It’s not bullshit.
The problem here is there’s no such thing as a handgun cartridge. There are handguns made for hunting and target sports such as Metallic Silhouette which fire rifle cartridges, which will penetrate soft body armor. Handguns have been made for virtually every rifle caliber. There are also rifles which shoot ammunition that are generally considered handgun rounds. But there is no set definition of a handgun round or a rifle round. The amendment in question was badly worded enough, and poorly thought out enough, it would have had the effect of banning hunting ammunition. When that was pointed out, the Senate properly defeated it. But Obama and Kennedy knew exactly what the were trying to do, which was enact a back door gun ban.
Sure, that’s what his aides say now. But there it was. He reviewed the questionnaire and added notes, and he did not change his stated position on the gun ban. Whether his aides wrote that or not is immaterial. That’s the position his office took. He might be singing a different tune now, but he has supported banning handguns. There’s no rescuing him on this one.
Can you explain exactly what hunting weapons are please FactCheck.org people? I’d really like to know. Because there is actually such a thing as handgun hunters out there. You knew that didn’t you? There are also a lot of handgun shooting sports, which are fast becoming the most popular shooting sports due to the fact that you don’t need a lot of real estate to build a pistol range. I’ll give FactCheck.org a pass on the assault weapons issue, and on judges. That’s based mostly on how we know the politics will play on this issue. Let me ask you this, do you believe Obama will appoint pro-second amendment judges after refusing to sign onto the Heller brief and saying he thought DC’s law was constitutional? It might be a lot of circumstantial evidence, but I think it would be enough to take to court. It’s also interesting to note that FactCheck got no response on the questions of increasing ammunition taxes by 500% and on the 5 mile gun shop exclusion zone he one proposed. I would encourage folks to contact FactCheck and tell them of some of their oversights here. Be factual. It very well may be, and probably is, that they don’t understand the gun issue that well, and NRA’s publications are meant more to rally gun owners than they are to educate the masses. That’s often going to be our job. UPDATE: SayUncle has a lot more too. UPDATE: Also The Other Sebastian. Bitter and I attended the McCain/Palin rally in Media, Pennsylvania today. Media is the County Seat of Delaware County, located about 12 miles west of Philadelphia. I live in Bucks County, but Delaware County is where I grew up. Delaware County used to be a place of Republican machine politics. Where the City of Philadelphia had machine Democratic politics, when people came out into the suburbs, you had the opposite. The communist party in its heyday didn’t enjoy the same level of dominance in the Soviet Union that the GOP had in my home county. My how things have changed. Don’t get me wrong, it was a rally with a lot of energetic Republicans, but there are signs of trouble. At the very least, the Delaware County GOP doesn’t have their act together. At worst, the state GOP is utterly unprepared for a drawn out ground battle with the Obama campaign. Bitter has documented this in a lot more detail. I told her to do the analysis, and I’ll do the pictures. Click on the pictures to see my comments.
McCain’s message was basically one of economic populism, with a lot of talk of cleaning up Wall Street along with Washington. Populism doesn’t particularly resonate with me, but it’s probably the right message to run on if he doesn’t want this financial crisis to hand this election to the Lightworker. One thing that I was happy to see was a large number of young women in the crowd. There were also more than a few younger guys. This gives me at least some hope. But in terms of political theather, which is what these rallies are really about, I think the GOP dropped the ball on this one. Unions should be ashamed of themselves for lying to their members like this:
It’s not corporate issues seeking to exploit this. Am I a corporate interest? Are NRA’s 4 million members corporate interests? No. You can’t hide from Obama’s record. Union members need to be aware of their leadership attempting to pull the wool over their eyes this election in hopes they’ll be good little union members, and pull the lever for the O-man. Let’s hope the union folks are smarter than their leadership gives them credit for come November. Biden says that Obama better never come after his shotgun:
Yeah, except the Second Amendment ain’t about Crazy Joe’s over/under, or his alleged skeet shooting prowess (I’ll believe it when I see it). Barack Obama not only doesn’t support the Second Amendment, he’s deeply offended by the entire idea. The good thing in this is Biden comes off as disingenuous to even a slightly discerning ear. Biden might think these guys are rubes, but we’ll see come November. |
