Stopping Power

I could use this woman as an example of the .380s lack of stopping power, but considering it entered and exited her skull, I think she’s just extraordinarily lucky.

That is something else. If I was her, I’d head on down to the corner Circle K, buy a large bottle of aspirin and about 500 bucks worth of lotto tickets.

Technically, it was pure luck. My 10mm could have taken the same path with the same results.
The fact that the @sshole ex blew his own brains out without achieving his primary objective is just icing on the cake.

It’s luck, but it’s also not unheard of. There’s a lot of redundancy in the brain — if the bullet misses all of the major blood vessels then there’s a good chance of survival. This is why they teach head-shots to the ocular-cranial window — not the forehead — you need soft tissue to get necessary expansion.
One shot through the aorta, though, and it’s Goodnight Gracy. COM, folks.

Jules: This was Divine Intervention! You know what “divine intervention” is?
Vincent: Yeah, I think so. That means God came down from Heaven and stopped the bullets.
Jules: Yeah, man, that’s what it means. That’s exactly what it means! God came down from Heaven and stopped the bullets.
Vincent: I think we should be going now.
Jules: Don’t do that! Don’t you fucking do that! Don’t blow this shit off! What just happened was a fucking miracle!
Vincent: Chill the fuck out, Jules, this shit happens.
Jules: Wrong! Wrong, this shit doesn’t just happen.
Vincent: Do you wanna continue this theological discussion in the car, or at the jailhouse with the cops?
Jules: We should be fuckin’ dead now, my friend! We just witnessed a miracle, and I want you to fucking acknowledge it!
Vincent: Okay man, it was a miracle, can we leave now?
Hey, I couldn’t resist the long drawn out Pulp Fiction quote.

Some years ago I heard of a similar thing happening with a .357 Magnum revolver. Boyfriend and girlfriend were hopped up on drugs. The boyfriend pulled out the revolver and pointed it at her forehead. She didn’t believe he would fire, so she looked directly into it. She was wrong and the bullet neatly split the two halves of her brain. She told the police that she had an awful headache when they showed up and it apparently took a bit of time for them to figure out what happened. (I guess her hair covered both the entrance and exit wounds.)
