    How far are you shooting? Bitter’s CZ (and mine, which is the same as Bitter’s) is an awesome bolt action. Don’t know what they cost now, but I bought mine for $199.99 when they first came out.

    The club has a 200 yard range. But I would like something that can reach out farther when I have the opportunity to shoot at longer distances.

    And what? The CZ 452 with a 28″ barrel isn’t going to do that?? How accurate are we talking here? I don’t think you’ll find any .22 LR that can group better than 6″ ctc @ 200 yds. I could be wrong, but I have yet to see a .22 rifle be that accurate. Anyone care to set me straight on that? Bueller?

    Generally speaking, if you want to go distances greater than 100 yards, you need to use a centerfire cartridge. Distances out past 500 yards, you need a caliber with good enough ballistic properties. Even for .223, competitors use heavier bullets to reach out to those distances.

    There are some 200 yard .22LR matches out there. I’ve heard it’s the wind-equivalent to shooting Palma (.308-chambered rifles, limited to less than 156gr bullets) at 1000 yards. But, on a calm day (or even at night with lights) some rather impressive scores could be shot. Some long range shooters will also shoot 200 with the .22 for practice.

    I’ve also heard that on particularly calm days way back when, some brit shooters would use .22s for the 200 yard matches rather than take their chances with the issued .303 ammo. (I guess there must have been a class that included both .22s and the .303s–seems odd, but I think I remember correctly)

    I hear good things about the $400-ish Savage (model 110, I believe). Just as accurate as the 700 from. What I hear.

    The Savage Model 12 has a solid reputation in the Long Range community.
