RSS Readership

I found a nice way to calculate my readership from RSS feeds here. It nailed both my bloglines feeds, so I have good confidence it’s accurate. Apparently 310 or so people are reading via RSS. That’s 310 people who don’t give a crap whether my site is blue, red, green, black or brown. I want to thank them for reading, and for doing their part to make the blogosphere truly color blind.
UPDATE: Someone asks about readership number in total. It’s hard to say, but based on my understanding of the data google analytics gives, it’s somewhere along the lines of 25,000 readers, a reader being defined as someone who shows up at least one or twice a week. I should really do some research on how these numbers are calculated though, and get a number I feel more confident in.

Google Reader list you as having 88 subscribers via their pulls. I’d guess google only shows up once in your logs, so add 87 there.

88 is what the application listed. Cool.

Thanks for having an RSS friendly site! So many folks don’t, its kind of sad. Much nicer to read a ton of blogs at once, know when they are updated, rathre than surf through a ton of bookmarks every day.
Love reading your blog, keep it up.

There’s no ad revenue to worry about cutting into, so it’s easy for me to do.

I’m one of the 88. I only click through to comment or read comments if I suspect there may be some of interest.

I love the fact that you have RSS support- I get to read in my browser and see everything all at once. Super convenient, and you always have good stuff. I’ve mentioned you in my podcast more than once because of the quality of reporting and citing your sources/links, etc.
Now, out of curiosity, what’s your total readership?

You’re very welcome. I’m another of the Google Reader folks.
Great blog, btw.

It’s difficult to say with any certainty, but it would seem I have about 25 thousand regular or semi-regular readers. Semi-regular meaning they come by at least once a week.

25 thousand… 0_o
Alright. I have a new podcast audience goal! :P

Keep in mind that’s just based on visits, which may or may not actually reflect actual readership. I’m going to see if I can process some numbers on that tonight.

Glad you found my RSS feed readership calculator useful. Here’s a direct link to it, should any of your readers want to give it a spin: http://www.rss4lib.com/feedstats/yourstats.pl

No…you need to advertise ya fool!!!
25,000 a week…and you don’t have an ad? If not an add, pop up some organizations you’d like to support.
;-)
That’s a very respectable readership.

As long as your site is mobile-friendly (this template is just a hair less than the old one). The big one is put the content in the left-most column. I can’t read War on Guns on my handheld very easily, for example, because of his Ginourmous Non-Content Column on the left (blogroll and archives link)

Not bad at all for a guy who started blogging in order to impress a girl.
It seems (deservedly so) that you’ve impressed several thousand other people too!
