Stopping Harold School District Gun Policy

“When I first read about this, I couldn’t believe it was legal,” said Marsha McCartney, president of the Texas chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. “It turns out it wasn’t.”

No, turns out that it is legal. They are depending on school regulations governing the hiring of security personnel, which require them to be sworn officers if they are to be armed.

If a board of trustees authorizes a person employed as security personnel to carry a weapon, the person must be a commissioned peace officer.

Teachers are not hired security personnel, and the Texas state concealed carry statute is pretty clear on the matter. Harold School District policy is a problem for the gun control movement, because we all know what’s going to happen if this policy is allowed to move forward: “A whole lotta nothing.” They must convince the public the world will end if guns are allowed in schools — all it takes is a few contrary cases for the gig to be up.

She’s not likely to find a lot of support down here. Texans, especially rural Texans, tend to be a conservative lot.

They also have the authority to form their own police dept.

Well, heck, we already know that allowing guns in schools doesn’t end the world - Israel’s been doing it for years.

The only significant effect I know of there is that occasionally an armed teacher or guard will shoot a would-be mass-murdering terrorist.

Hey!

This is great news. This is perfect because it puts the Brady Camp on defense. The amount of time and resources these Stalinists have to put into this is gonna be great if they pursue this seriously. The the two things they are gonna have to do is tell us:

1. How all our schools are really safe from psychopaths who want to turn children into hamburger meat.
2. How all of us teachers are really timid, idiotic lightweights who wouldn’t drop some sociopath who was trying to kill a child (That in and of itself is insulting!). This was expressed by the local police chief in response to the school board’s ruling.
3. That some teacher would leave his piece out for little Johnny to shove into his mouth like Hemingway!

I am happy that now the Brady Camp will have to expend more resources on this. Congratulations douche bags! May you be overwhelmed by numerous lawsuits that bankrupt you into oblivion…..

I admit I did a quick search of my guide to Texas firearms regulations I got from my CHL class last year, thinking “this is too good to be true”, but nope, it’s perfectly legal once the school board issues “written permission” to CHL holders.
I do hope this catches on at the University level, eventually, but that might be an uphill struggle still. I’m quite surprised it started at the Secondary Ed level, actually, but very pleased.
