Now that it’s a confirmed hoax, it’s funny, I have to admire the hoaxsters a bit. Taking advantage of people’s desire to believe — to just believe, man — is kind of a crappy thing to do except to people who deserve it. This happened in Pennsylvania not too long ago, despite the fact that Pennsylvania Game Commisssion biologists said it was most definitely a mangy bear. I can kind of understand why people want to believe in UFOs. I can even grok the need to believe in highly unlikely government conspiracies.
But I can’t wrap my head around why people believe there just has to be a Bigfoot. Certainly the idea that there are proto-humans living among the creatures in the wooded area behind the Wal-Mart is kind of cool, but this borders on religious for some people. What’s the deal?

Gun shows will continue at Cow Palace, since the bill to prohibit them was defeated in the California Senate. According to John Rosenthal, there will be terrorists in caves in Pakistan who will cheer this ruling.

Especially when they are wielding revolvers. I would note that despite the Brady Campaign’s celebration of reasonable gun laws, they did everything they could to prevent people in DC from having the tools necessary to defend their homes.

One in Texas, which might be perhaps the oldest shooting club in the United States, and one in update New York. Both are smallbore/airgun clubs, but hey, you can have a good time with both. The Texas Club, New Braunfels Schuetzen Verein, has been in existence since 1849. If they are indeed the oldest club, it’s interesting to ponder what effect immigration played in the 19th century in transforming the shooting culture, particularly in bringing European style shooting clubs to the United States.
It will be interesting to see the effect heavy Russian immigration has on the shooting culture here in the Philadelphia area, which has developed a very significant community of Russian and Eastern European shooters, both men and women. I haven’t noticed them too much in the area club culture, but at the public ranges, Russian is a common language on the range in this area.

Looks like Bushmaster has been pretty generious with humanitarian aid to Georgia. Looking at the selector position on one, those aren’t ARs, they are M4s. I hope we’ll be sending a lot more humanitarian aid their way. Bear… meet cobra.
