Gun Theft Ring Busted in New Jersey

A couple of New Jersey cargo handlers, working for FedEX, were busted by the feds for stealing guns being shipped to a New Jersey based importer.  The guns were sold on the streets of Newark, East Orange, and Jersey City.

Surely Bryan Miller will find some way to pin this on Pennsylvania’s lax gun laws.

    Here’s a quote from the article:

    “Investigators say 28-year-old Patrick Dolan of Keyport worked at a FedEx facility in Eatontown, where he allegedly stole 146 guns being shipped from a manufacturer in Argentina to an importer in New Jersey.”

    I’ll bet that most, if not all, of those guns were Bersa Thunder-380’s, which are sort-of cheap clones of the Walther PPK. For whatever reason, the thugs and the drug dealers seem to like their .380’s, even though they are not really all that great as self-defense pistols.

    This isn’t uncommon. UPS ‘lost’ my Dragunov until they were threatened w/ the BATFE. They ‘found’ it 5 minutes later.

    Wyatt Earp: If you read the article carefully, it seems that these 146 stolen guns have already “flowed” through the streets, soon to be misused in god only knows how many criminal hands.

    So much for New Jersey’s pending “one gun a month” law….when governor seatbelt signs it into law, I’m sure there will be a whole lot more media coverage on that story than this one.

    Wait a minute, I thought the bad guys in Jersey all got their guns through the “gun show loophole” and bulk “straw purchases”. That’s what Bryan Miller of Ceasefire New Jersey says, right?

    Kinda makes ya wonder about the Brady claim about dealers reporting gobs of guns as “lost or stolen.”

    Perhaps they were lost or stolen before the dealer even had them.

    I once shipped a disassembled black powder gun with UPS, and when I was asked to describe the box contents for the paperwork, I just said it was machinery parts. I later learned that the whole gun arrived safely at its destination with no signs of tampering on the box.

    I guess that all of these handguns which were stolen from their FedEX shipments had to be designated as being firearms on the FedEX paperwork for legal reasons, which to me seems just a bit stupid. It’s almost like putting a label on each box which says, “I’m a firearm, steal me!”
