Please Let This Be a Joke

There’s no better way for the gun rights movement to lose than for us to become a freak show. I sincerely hope there is not a nascent open carry movement among furries. Not that I am condemning furries. It’s a free country. I can’t say I get it, and to tell the truth, I think it’s pretty creepy, but if getting dressed up in a kangaroo suit is what gets you off, who am I to say anything?
But when you open carry, you become the face of the gun rights movement, and a guy in a Kangaroo suit ain’t my first choice, or even my second choice. Come to think of it, a guy with a collar and a radio isn’t high up there either. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s a free country, but I’m going to feel free to laugh at you, and call you an idiot. Apparently the good folks in Pittsburgh agree.
UPDATE: It would seem the page in question has been removed. Good. Had you seen it, it would have been a guy with a radio strapped to his shirt, all cop style, with a black hat, and a gun strapped to his hip. He claimed to be a Kangaroo. Seriously. Furries scare me.
UPDATE: Here’s the original out of my cache. Don’t be that guy.
UPDATE: Rich makes a good point in the comments, that I ought not give the guy attention. Links removed.

A wise Victorian lady once said, perhaps in regard to Oscar Wilde, I’m not sure: “I don’t care what they do as long as they don’t do it in the street and frighten the horses.”

Agreed. Hell, it was a furry who eventually got me to support RKBA, with “2, the Ranting Gryphon”s rant on guns.
I can see what Sebastian means though.

Judging furries in general based on the people who think they’re actually animals is like judging the RKBA movement based on the people training to fend off the imminent UN helicopter attack.

I thought furries were people who imagined themselves as animals?
July 12th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Nah, a lot of them are just into animation, or having an animal-like alternate persona, or more frighteningly, rather creepy erotica. Individuals claiming themselves to be an animal are relatively rare even compared to the fans of Brian Jacques or ‘plush animals’. A lot of even those folks are pretty normal to first appearances.
The guy in a kangaroo suit part would just be weird. It can certainly be creepy, but it’s not likely to get him shot or arrested. Mall ninja part, you betcha.

All erotica is creepy to people who aren’t into. I gon’t get the videos of naked/nearly-naked women shooting machineguns myself, but they seem to sell well at gun shows.

Sebastian, I am the mod that removed the thread from PAFOA, at Dan’s request.
I think that the OP is looking for attention, ANY attention, including negative attention. I applaud you for pointing out that as OC’ers we have to maintain a positive public image in order to further the cause of the movement. Absolutely correct and worth pointing out often ;) … But at the same time I think that by re-posting the ridiculousness of *that* thread here only satisfies the sick craving of the OP…
I would prefer to see the existence of the thread die a quiet un-noticed death. Just my $02
Best,
Rich

Good point. Blog practices tend to mean I can’t take down the post, but I can take down the links.

when i posted a message on the PAFOA about visiting pittsburgh and asking about potential places to move in the area, i received about 15 responses… the last 4 or 5 were a discussion of furries in the burgh… i was a tad scared

How big would the have to make the trigger guards? And would the handle be engineered to 3 fingers or two?

I must live a sheltered life, here in small-town southern Illinois–I had never heard of “furries.”
Something tells me I need not mourn what I’ve been “missing.”

It’s a type of faggotry that didn’t really exist before the internets. It is basically an animal mascot fetish. Maybe people that were fondled at disney world and liked it. Who knows.
I found out about it from encyclopedia dramatica which keeps track of this sort of perversity.
