Unhinged over Heller

The ACLU says they disagree with the Supreme Court and continue to hold the Second Amendment is a collective right. I have to admit, I have at one time been a member of the ACLU, because I have often respected some of the work they have done. I will never give another dime to them because of this. Not another dime!
This country desperately needs a real civil liberties advocacy group.

For a while, and before I owned a gun, I was a member of the ACLU. For years after I let my membership lapse I would get reminders to renew my membership. I started sending my renewal notice in with a short note (and no money) saying I would renew my membership and give them $200 additional if they changed their stance on the 2nd Amendment.
The deal still stands, but until they change I won’t be sending them any money and I will continue to be critical of them.

I agree. On the one hand, they do excellent work defending unpopular speech… but at least the NRA is honest when they say their only civil rights priority is the Second Amendment. If the ACLU changed their name the American First Amendment Union or something, then that would be fine. But there is an unforgivable hypocrisy involved in claiming to promote and protect ALL of our civil rights, while at the same time trashing an explicitly enumerated one. The ACLU has never said of the first, fourth, or fifth amendments “we’re gonna wait for some more case law”… they would dang well go out and MAKE some case law. On the one hand, I’m glad they aren’t getting involved due to their unfathomable stance on the issue. On the other hand, I wish I could support them again.

They even filed a pro-rights brief in Heller.

Those of us who are current ACLU members ought to decide on a day on which we will all, nationwide, simultaneously, publicly burn our ACLU membership cards to protest this.
We need a catchy name.
“ACLU: Go to Heller.” no, corny and dumb.
“American Cultural Liberals United” No, grasping at straws here.
“Smoke THIS, ACLU” See, I got nuthin’.

Ah yes–an anecdote about armed people who failed to protect themselves proves that not only is being armed worthless for self-defense, but that there is no Constitutional right to be armed for that purpose.

That was really insightful of our founding fathers to provide a collective right for the government to arm itself. What a bunch of retards.
I guess the first amendment is a collective right too.

The American Communist Lawyers Union doesn’t stray far from it’s roots — they’re collectivists and were set up to defend Communists.
Founder of the ACLU Roger Baldwin was a student of Emma Goldman who tutored him on Lenin. He wrote a book called, “Liberty Under the Soviets.”
In 1920 he moved his law offices in with the Communist Party paper “New Masses” and named the group the ACLU. The ACLU was founded at a party attended by Socialist Party notable Norman Thomas, future Communist Party chairman Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, and Soviet agent Agnes Smedley. Harry Ward, first chairman of the ACLU and author of “Soviet Democracy” and “Soviet Spirit,” was chairman of “The American League for Peace and Democracy” — one of the largest Communist fronts in the country.
On January 16, 1981, President Jimmy Carter awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to ACLU founder Roger Nash Baldwin, calling him ‘a champion of human and civil rights.’
Screw the ACLU, they’re in it for the Party, not the people. They defended the “free speech” of Nazis in Skokie because they’re National Socialists.

When renewing your ACLU membership, pay by check, but turn your check into a “draft” by printing on the back, “By endorsing this draft, the recipient acknowledges and agrees that the Second Amendment to the U.S.Constitution protects an individual’s right to own and possess firearms for any lawful purpose without regard to service in a militia.”
If and when the ACLU gets several thousand checks like that…
It could work!

This is sweet–the ACLU’s stance on Heller is apparently losing them more friends than it’s gaining them (zero?).
