Legal Question

author Posted by: Sebastian on date Jun 6th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Gun Rights

Blackwater is opening a training facility in San Diego.  How exactly are they getting around California’s assault weapons ban?  I know they are able to get new machine guns because of the contractor exemption, but that doesn’t exempt them from California’s ban, does it?

Likely same way they have MGs in NC. Exemption in the law for contractor agencies.

My understanding is that BW falls under the authority of the State Department. I’m sure they have some pull when it comes to skirting the law.

I don’t know about the legal stuff but I do know that this facility won’t be too far from my house. ;) Cool beans!

Probably the same way Hollywood does, by obtaining a discretionary license the state theoretically could issue to individuals but almost never does. I don’t think full autos are even subject to the “assault” weapon ban, though it’s possible that full auto version of named weapons are.

Good to hear they were able to open it, regardless. Living down here, you would not imagine the hooplah about this thing…
