Bitter and I paid a visit to the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. this weekend. Not a bad walk around the tidal basin, except for all the other people. This weekend was also the Kite Festival which gathers around the Washington Monument.
- Thomas Jefferson statue in the Jefferson Memorial. I hope one day the Diamond of Pantheos can be found, and Mecha-Jefferson walks across the tidal basin and destroys the FDR memorial.

- Beautiful canopy of cherry blossoms
- Washington Monument as taken through cherry trees
- Me with a back drop of cherry blossoms. I never look happy in pictures.

- Sun shining through the blossom canopy. Bitter likes this shot better than I do.
- Jefferson Memorial showing through the cherry blossoms.
- Ducks hanging around the tidal basin. Mmmm.... duck.
Everyone who goes to Washington really ought to go to the FDR memorial. It’s what you would imagine government bureaucrats, many of whom owe their jobs and livelihoods to the policies of FDR, would come up with. It’s basically a giant fountain dedicated to big nanny government. It makes me sick.

In my day, there was a proposal to have the FDR monument simply read, “If you would see his monument, look around you.”
The people proposing it thought it was praise…

It bothers me greatly that Madison gets one room in the Library of Congress for his official memorial, and FDR gets that huge testament to the New Man.

New Soviet Man: the theory that if the environment (economy) is changed, people will change with it.
I hear some Communists actually thought they would live for 1,000 years once Communism became dominant.

Hey
Me and the family were there on Sunday too! It was a shame they had the kite festival this weekend, cause we always enjoy that too. But I wouldn’t go anywhere near the mall on Saturday what with the kites, cherry blossom parade, baseball game, marathon and whatever else was happening.
Anyway, I had actually necer been up to teh FDR memorial. It really is a nice space, well designed and landscaped, but totally repulsive. As I told my oldest as we were walking around in it - its a memorial to the man more responsible for America’s problems than anyone else in the last 100 years. Which earned me a nasty glance or two.
