I once had some primers roll off the kitchen table one summer into a gas floor heater. 6 months later, the little women is standing over said heater in a long nightgown, warming up the cold spots and…..yup….pow, a piece flew up and struck a delicate nether region. This was only a week after I broke the corner off the dinner table resizing some stubborn nickle .357 cases. I was not too popular for a while. As far as “You know your a gun nut when, I always have a cartridge in my pocket mixed in with my change. The size of the round changes with my moods. (as in “is that a 45/70 in your pocket or are you just glad to see me. ) This week it’s a .43 spanish with a paper patch bullet. Next week/month it could be a .22 bb cap or a brass 12 ga.

P.S. Does it bother anyone else to own a firearm, no matter how strange or obsolete, and not have at least ONE round for it. Just for emergency. Great site.

Try sucking up 3 or 4 live 22 rounds in quick succession. The neighbor WILL come running to determine what you have done to her vacuum, and be PISSED to boot when she sees it. Trust me on this one.

At the Akron airport, both a cop and a TSA rep said not to worry about being at the range before flying - that’s not the kind of “powder” they’re sniffing for. Went through the puffer at Denver and TIA and a cop said the same thing. I still wash out everything [minus the empty or loaded rounds] before flying.

If you’re going to start tumbling brass in the drier, you might not want to wear those clothes to the airport. And if you do go to the airport, stay away from the doggies.

Ran into the same sort of problem when I washed one of my jackets. Mrs. G. was NOT happy to find not one, not two, but three live .22lr rounds rolling around in the dryer. I’d been putting the rounds that weren’t firing correctly in my Rem 66 into my pocket, to be fired in the Win 1906, only I forgot about the last three…

.22 brass is one thing. Try to imagine the displeasure of the missus when she goes to investigate the clunking sound in the dryer and returns with a live .45 Auto cartridge.

Hahaha. That’s a little big to pass through to the lint filter. It’s definitely the dryer sheets that polished the brass up. I’ve also seen it work wonders in the tumbler. Dryer sheets are basically wax and fragrance coated sheets of paper.

It’s the dryer sheet. Sometimes, I’ll toss one in the tumbler media and it does a good job of getting the casings shiny.

The new tumbler media: Dryer lint? I am not too surprised that fabric fibers worked well at polishing brass…though having never tumbled 22 lr cases before I wonder how well it would work on 45 acp or something a bit more heavy duty dirty.
