Unfortunately, Sebastian, while I agree with you on the vast majority of things, I am going to have to disagree with you on the last paragraph.

Sex education has no place in schools, none whatsoever. What does need to happen, however, is parents need to parents, and teach their children about safe sex and the repercussions of not-safe-sex. After a fashion, I feel the same about firearm education as well... If it is not academic, or not related to getting into college, or not something similar, schools really do not have any business there. For PT classes, I do have some degree of forgiveness, since no one gives a care about those, but actual classes? Come on. But, again, parents need to parent, and teach their children about the dangers, and enjoyments, of firearms.

Of course, that is never going to happen, so we have the joy of the federal/state/local governments stepping in and teaching our children what they like, and most people welcome the opportunity to hand over their parenting abilities and rights.

To me this is the same type of issue as sex education in schools. You can either have the kids learn responsible gun use from responsible adults, or they can learn from video games and movies.

And being irresponsible with either one can kill you. Interesting that so many people are against teaching responsibility.

What I want to know is why we didn't have sex education when I was in school and why we didn't have a practice range.

Oh, that's right, sex hadn't been invented yet. Dammit!

I'm not sure... what you mean... Shooting the bad guys in video games is safe use.

I just think that Tom Cruise has more effect with his on-screen portrayals of gun use than all the video games combined.

Actually, State College is nothing like that, although I'm sure that most of the academics would have a cow if they saw a gun. The university has next to no impact on local politics -- and nobody on the school board is an academic. The brand new school board. We had a 53% election turnout to boot the school board out of office and elect a new one. Apparently, these dolts are as stupid as then ones we kicked out of office.

This occurred in State College, PA, I believe - the home of Penn State University. Of course the academic pinheads who live there are going to recoil at anything having to do with guns.

I don't think video games are that bad regarding firearm use. Not the way movies are, anyway. Most actually give good context for their use.
