Gun Show Promoter Backs McCain

It’s looking like McCain is trying to woo some of the gun vote back, and has landed Florida gun show promoter Victor Bean’s endorsement:
Senator McCain will sign on to a national right-to-carry bill if Congress brings it to his desk. As far as he is concerned, the gun show loophole is a moot point, and he will appoint judges who follow the Constitution.
Perhaps it’s because I’m not a Floridian, but this is the first I’ve heard of Victor Bean. I do have to wonder what makes McCain think the gun show issue is now a “moot point”?

hotair.com and michellemalkin.com have been hitting McCain pretty hard.
I did a little looking around and found a donation from Mike B.
Bloomberg, Michael. City of New York
McCain, John. Friends of John McCain
$2,000 X2 06/27/03

According to that page, he also donated to George W. Bush, Steve Forbes, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson over the years. Though, he donated to McCain multiple times…
I wouldn’t make too much of it.

Lived in Florida for a time, and went to a few gun shows in the Jacksonville area, and never heard of the guy either. *shrugs*
“… if congress brings it to his desk…” is a pansy-assed way of saying that he is not going to go out of his way to do a damned thing, and the same goes for the justices, since there is no guarantee that any of the present justices will retire or die.
If there is one thing that is going to kill firearm rights in this country, it is going to be someone who approaches them from a reactive point of view. Of course, this could be said for a lot of rights…

I’ve been in Florida a long time and I haven’t heard of this guy. Heard of Marion Hammer.

I wouldn’t read too much into the donation either. It’s not uncommon for rich guys to pepper the field like that.

I just had a reader point out to me that on McCain’s own website, he says that he sponsored legislation to “close” the gun show loophole. So I guess when he says “it’s a dead issue”, that means his mind is made up on closing a pretend loophole.

“I do have to wonder what makes McCain think the gun show issue is now a ‘moot point’?”
Gotta go with AHAB here; it’s a moot point because McCain has made up his mind, and as far as he’s concerned, everyone else can kiss off. Just like he made up his mind on ‘Campaign Finance Reform’ and the Constitution be damned…
