Anyone Know This Gun’s Story?

The Wilkinson Arms “Linda” pistol.  I don’t know anything about the manufacturer, or the gun.  Never heard of either.  Does anyone else know the history?

What Should Happen to the ATF?

author Posted by: Sebastian on date Aug 7th, 2007 | filed Filed under: Guns

Red’s Trading Post Blog asks the question. Go tell him what you think. I would like nothing better than to see the organization rolled up into another federal agency, because I think we have too many federal law enforcement agencies in general, and I think there are cultural problems within ATF that need to be remedied.

But unless we can get rid of every federal gun law, which I don’t believe is politically feasible for the foreseeable future, a solution has to come from Congress. That’s also not likely as long as the Democrats are running things.

But we can’t blame the Democrats for all this. We still have a Republican occupying the White House. A Republican who is supposed to be friendly to lawful gun ownership. What are you doing for us now Mr. Bush? Mr. Gonzalez? We will remember this come 2008!

UPDATE: Take a look at the gem from this article:

In a phone interview, Professor Burbick says the gun-rights movement began not only in reaction to gun laws, but also as a reflection of white men’s anxiety about the civil rights movement. Right-wing politicians have deliberately exploited that anxiety, exaggerating the dangers of government power and of criminals who supposedly target every unarmed person, she says. “The gun has become a fetish — an emotional response to a changing America,” she notes, “the idea that somehow, the social problems of the U.S. will be solved through private gun ownership and a lot more guns.”

Are these people serious?  I love it when the media passes off someone else’s preconceptions and prejudices as authoritative opinion.  Professor Jean Burbick, as a pro-civil rights, otherwise socially liberal gun rights advocate, you can go to hell.

Passing Blame

Bryan Miller, President of CeaseFire New Jersey and Pennsylvania, is busy blaming the handgun manufacturers for the tragedy in Newark.  Also blamed are Pennsylvania’s gun laws.   Glossed over is the fact that New Jersey’s very strict gun laws did not prevent this tragedy.   I’ve had my say.   Go have yours.

The Complete DOJ

Ryan mentioned his hits from DOJ were down. This got me rather curious. Since I’m self hosted, I keep records of every hit going back to the start of the blog. It would seem the DOJ has been visiting me too! But not as often as Ryan:

USS Pennsylvania’s Guns On Display

If you live near Boalsburg, in Central Pennsylvania, it sounds like you’ll soon be able to visit the large guns of the Battleship USS Pennsylvania.

Congressman Peterson’s Editorial

author Posted by: Sebastian on date Aug 7th, 2007 | filed Filed under: Pennsylvania

Go check out Congressman John Peterson’s editorial in CenterDaily, in regards to I-80 tolls.

Tolling of I-80 has little to do with solving Pennsylvania’s transportation and infrastructure problems. It has a lot to do with paying off debt and fixing problems that should have been addressed years ago.

Until, the governor and our leaders in Harrisburg find the courage and political will to take on the likes of Philadelphia’s Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and the Turnpike Commission and start managing our transportation system properly, they will be tolling every highway in Pennsylvania.

I agree here.  I’m not in favor of continually dumping money into SEPTA.  SEPTA has to reform itself, and at least develop a modicum of efficiency and accountability, before I’m going to agree to dump massive amounts of state dollars into the system, no questions asked.

Right to Life Saving Drugs

author Posted by: Sebastian on date Aug 7th, 2007 | filed Filed under: Law

This decision seems boneheaded to me.  It would seem to me that there is a fundamental right to seek potentially life saving medical care, absent any specific enumeration in the constitution.

One more example of there being no liberty that is so sacred that it can’t be trampled on in the name of the War on Drugs.

Ambitious Growth Plans

My alma mater seems to be intent on creating a presence on the west coast.  I was skeptical when Drexel decided to buy a medical college, and then create a law school.  Because I think this seems like a boondoggle, the smart money is on it being radically successful.  It’s a good rule of thumb, I think, that it’s a bad idea to bet against “Taki” Papadakis.  I look forward to being wrong once again.

Small trivia fact.   I’m not the first Drexel guy Bitter has dated :)

The Bush Betrayal

Libertysphere talks about how Bush has been no friend of gun owners.  I have to agree.

The More the Merrier

author Posted by: Sebastian on date Aug 7th, 2007 | filed Filed under: Brewing

Pennsylvania is home to some really fantastic breweries, from Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, to Pennsylvania Brewing Company in Pittsburgh, it’s a great state to live in, if you’re a beer lover.  I’m happy to see us adding Philadelphia Brewing Company to the family of excellent Pennsylvania brewers.

Violence Policy Center Study Bunk

author Posted by: Sebastian on date Aug 7th, 2007 | filed Filed under: Anti-Gun Folks

A few days ago I linked to a VPC study that purported to rank states by number of drive by shootings. While I linked to it in such a way as to not take it seriously, it would appear that, perhaps because they lack the funding to conduct a proper study, that VPC determined this through creative Google searching! I couldn’t make this shit up folks.

Stick a fork in them. The VPC is done.
